This year marks a significant milestone for Black Funding Network (BFN) as we celebrate our fifth anniversary. But while we reflect on our journey, we also acknowledge the increasing challenges faced by grassroots organisations working tirelessly to support disadvantaged communities.

At BFN, we are not just donors – we are neighbours, advocates, and changemakers. As part of Philanthropy Together’s Braintrust, we demonstrate the power of collective giving, pooling resources to invest in the grassroots organisations making a real difference. Giving circles like ours remove barriers, mobilise resources swiftly, and stand in solidarity with those on the front lines.

The Urgency of Now

Across the UK and beyond, nonprofit organisations are facing growing threats, with many struggling to access the resources they need to continue their vital work. These underfunded yet essential organisations show up every day for people in crisis. The question is: will we show up for them? The answer is clear: we must.

This is why BFN was created five years ago—to channel collective action in response to racial injustice. We believe that giving by us, for us, and with us is a transformative force built for moments like these.

What We Can Do Together

Our next crowdfunding event on 24 April embodies the spirit of collective giving. After reviewing over 60 applications, we are preparing to select three outstanding grassroots organisations to present their work to our community of generous givers. Many of these organisations are tackling critical issues, from mental health to youth opportunities and climate justice.

Here’s how you can be part of this movement:

  • Give Your Treasure – Move money with no strings attached. Join us on 24 April.
  • Give Your Time and Talent – Connect with a community leader and ask, “How can I help?”
  • Give Your Testimony – Amplify grassroots voices by sharing their stories and advocating for supportive policies.
  • Give Your Ties – Rally your network of friends, family, and colleagues to join our movement.

Together, we can create a lasting impact.
