On 24th April, from 5:15 pm to 9 pm, join us at our Spring Funder – a distinguished evening where professionals, business leaders, solicitors, and influencers gather to make a genuine difference. In our fifth year and as part of our eighth Funder, we are on a mission to raise £6,000+ for grassroots organisations that are reshaping communities. One of the three organisations presenting at this funder is Black Anti-Racism Community Organisation CIC (BARCO). In this article, we introduce you to them, the team behind the grassroots organisation, and their mission – so you can see just how incredible their work is.

Empowering a Community Through Celebration and Advocacy

BARCO is a community interest company dedicated to uplifting Black people living, working, studying, and visiting Brighton & Hove. Through vibrant events, cultural celebrations, and community-led initiatives, BARCO transforms everyday experiences into moments of empowerment. Their work is a testament to the power of celebrating Black heritage in a predominantly white society, bringing together diverse voices and fostering inclusivity.

A Diverse and Resilient Organisation

BARCO’s leadership, board, and volunteers are predominantly made up of Black individuals, women, and members of the global majority—ensuring that the very people they serve are at the helm of the change. Their dynamic team tackles critical issues such as physical and mental wellbeing, social justice, and community wealth building, creating spaces where everyone can be heard and celebrated.

Brighton BASH Carnival 2025 – A Vision for Cultural Renaissance

BARCO is gearing up to deliver the Brighton BASH Carnival 2025, a cornerstone project designed to deepen the community’s engagement with Black culture and history. With funding, they will expand school engagement initiatives, creative workshops, and family events—each aimed at educating, inspiring, and uniting the community. This carnival will not only be a festive celebration but also a powerful educational platform that empowers young people and enriches the cultural tapestry of Brighton & Hove.
