At Black Funding Network, we are passionate about supporting grassroots organisations that make a tangible difference in their communities. One of our past grantees, Black Girls Hike (BGH), continues to create impactful experiences that challenge barriers and promote inclusivity in outdoor spaces.

Founded to provide a safe space for Black women to explore nature without fear of judgment or exclusion, BGH has been transforming the outdoor landscape with their community-focused guided walks, wellbeing sessions, and camping retreats. This March, BGH is offering a series of FREE guided walks as part of the Putting Down Routes Project, in partnership with the Kent Downs National Landscape.

These guided walks along the North Downs Way encourage Black women to build confidence in the outdoors while connecting with nature and each other. The walks are open to all fitness levels, making them an accessible way to enjoy the beauty of the English countryside.

Upcoming walks include:

  • Shoreham to Lullingstone Park (Sat 22nd March) – Book here
  • Wye Crown Walk with Wild with Wheels (Sat 29th March) – Book here

Beyond the walks, BGH is hosting a Camping Weekender in the heart of the Worcestershire countryside at Green & Away’s eco campsite. This retreat is an invitation to pause, reset, and embrace the healing power of nature through guided wellbeing sessions, communal meals, and time to connect with fellow participants.

BGH’s work not only highlights the importance of equitable access to nature but also the power of collective community action. We’re proud to see our past grantees continuing to thrive and create spaces where everyone can feel welcome.
